FISHING SPOTS - Here are some of the fishing hot spots in Utah:
- Scofield has been good, with fishermen averaging five or more fish per hour. Fish have been from 13 to 19 inches. Anglers have had good luck with light-colored tube jigs or ice jigs tipped with small night crawler or meal worm. Kastmasters have also worked well.
- The whitefish spawn is over at Bear Lake, but the cisco run will hit in two to three weeks. Fishing is typically good before the annual run. Some of the best spots are off the state park marina, First and Second points and Cisco Beach.
View Comments- Fishing is picking up at Rockport for both perch and trout.
- The ice at Strawberry isn't safe.
- Lake Powell is in its winter fishing pattern. Striped bass have gone deep, normally around 60 feet. Largemouth are in between 30 and 40 feet. Fishermen should use shad or crayfish-colored grubs, spoons or jigs.
- The Green River has been excellent in recent weeks. Some are saying that it's the best fishing in several years.
